Socks and Sandals

After 2 weeks of packing and stressing I finally got away. Unbelievable how much stuff I've acquired during my 18 months in Copenhagen, don't ask me what it is, when I arrived I had my backpack and my small bag, as well as my snowboard bag. All I remember buying while being here are a few DVDs, some books and a couple of shirts, yet suddenly I can fill 2 large moving boxes. Now I'm on the boat crossing over to Germany, after having been in Norway for nearly 2 weeks I came back to Copenhagen to pack the rest of my stuff and sort out what I need for this mission. I have a bike too, which I put in a large box and took on the bus. The rules said no bikes, but nothing about no large boxes, I don't understand transport companies' obsession with bikes, you can take a huge bag, a baby pram, or whatever on the metro for free, but once you take a bike you have to pay... My question is, what if you just take the frame with no wheels? Is that counted as a bike? Or what if you only have one wheel? Anyway, I'm heading to Germany, first stop is Berlin, where I have to get this bike working and then I'm going to ride it to Vienna, sounds far, it's only 500km, so 100km a day should be fine. I hope, maybe I'll be found dead on the side of the rode with a bruised butt from the solid seat. But it means I'll have more to write in this blog. I plotted the route, doesn't look too hard, but the part when it goes through the Czech Republic looked a bit scary, I don't know anything about their language, or how their roads are, but I'll find out.
Typical that the last week before I left the weather was hot as, yet I was inside packing and working, most of the packing time is spent going through all the piles of paper that had accumulated over the year, one day I'll be free of my paper addiction, but until then I'll continue stashing every stupid letter I get from my bank and other useless pages of crap I collect on my ways. So as soon as I arrived in Oslo the weather turned to shit, rain and autumn weather all the time, I went to the mountains and it was still rain and cold. Optimistically one day we went to the beach, even though it was freezing the rain had stopped and I felt obliged to get in the water, dunno why coz the experience is painful, I finally managed to fully submerge myself before jumping out. Though we did get to do some good mountain climbing, the grass and ground were wet as the sea, the lads had proper mountains boots, but I had my converse, which are water resistant to 1mm, so by the time we had come down I was wearing my own fish socks. Still I managed to do the same as the guys in boots and Amund's boots were also so drenched that froth was bubbling out of the seams.
Some good examples of European style on this ferry today, as there always seems to be on the ferry. Everyone thinks Europeans are so sophisticated, I see why, they did get some good shit done over the years, but sitting here looking at the collection of mutants on the boat, I see that they lost it somewhere along the line. Dudes with Mullets, the classic, still don't understand where you can actually get a mullet done, surely the barber would just reply with "Haha, no, what do you really want?". And my personal favourite, the sandals with white socks, combined with silky soccer shorts or adidas track suit pants, the perfect recipe for white trash, just the European flavour. Why the fuck does anyone wear socks with sandals? The sandal is supposed to be because it's too hot for a real shoe, but the sock instantly shows that it's not too hot, and you are only being some kind of summer optimist, just put on a shoe. And it's all over, especially here on the boat, the Eastern European girls have great skill at dressing like prostitutes, guess it's the Achilles heel of high heels, once worn outside in the day they become very tacky, combined with some quality stone wash denim you can spot them a mile away.
